Oakland Hills Addition- 2022

This project is a 300 SQ FT addition (a master suite) to an existing house in Oakland hills. The original house is built in the the 1938 with clean modern lines and simple Art Deco elements. Our proposed design for the exterior is aiming to blend with the existing, to read as one house, and yet, make the addition contemporary.

 

The most interesting aspect of this project is the steep slope, which results a short space underneath the bedroom. The site itself is also in the shape of a triangle, inscribed by two roads that intersect with a sharp angle, and the adjacent property.  Even though the property is a triangle, it was the most cost effective way to keep the house orthogonal and extend the existing linear geometry of the house.
